Process:

The client wanted this desk, and matching bookcase, to look like a piece of furniture they had purchased years ago, but wanted it to have a more contemporary feel.

This meant clean, straight, lines and a series of drawers for storage of cables.  The client wanted these drawers to flow seamlessly with the top of the desk. They also wanted the hinges to be hidden as there was a chance that the back of the desk might be viewable.  I came up with a barrel hinge idea and the client was very happy with the outcome.

There's almost nothing better than perfectly straight grained, rift white oak, to adorn the top of a piece of furniture

This is the basic framework for the drawers. You can see the holes for the barrel hinges across the top, and the holes to allow electrical connections to pass through.
